2010 European Winning Team,
Cologne University, Germany

Each year the European Centre for Space Law organises, together with the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), the European Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. Regional winners from Europe, Asia-Pacific and the United States then compete in the world finals, held in conjunction with the annual International Astronautical Congress. After having hosted the event for many years in the premises of ESA Headquarters, ECSL decided to organise it each year in a University in Europe in order to promote this competition and spread the knowledge of space law all over Europe. Thus, the European Round was successfully organised in in Riga, Lithuania (2008), in Athens, Greece (2009) and in Györ, Hungary (2010).

As a matter of policy, the ECSL selects some teams to reimburse travel and accommodation expenses for two students per team. The selection of teams who qualify for this financial support is based on the scores of their written memorials and/or the financial possibilities of their University. Teams who do not qualify for ECSL's financial support may also take part in the regional round at their own expense. No registration fees are required to enter the competition.
