The IISL introduced the Asia Pacific Regional Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition in 1999. The winner of this round represents the Asia-Pacific region at the World Finals, held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress to be held at Naples, Italy during October 1-5, 2012.

The 2012 Asia-Pacific regional round will take place in Hyderabad, India at NALSAR University of Law from 22 to 23 June.

The Asia-Pacific regional round is governed by specific regional rules as well as overall official rules of Manfred Lachs Moot Court Competition. The 2012 Asia-Pacific rules are now available.

Prospective student teams are expected to note that the structure of the competition has been changed from preceding years. The present structure creates two-tiers in the competition, with students competing for a limited number of seats in the oral round. As per the plan for 2012, total number of teams for oral rounds would be limited to 20. These changes reflect a desire to encourage as many schools as possible to participate, while at the same time maintaining a challenging yet realistic competition schedule. In addition, we hope that this new format will encourage interactions between participating teams and space-active states within the Asia Pacific region in ways unique to our competition.

As part of our exploration to broaden the engagement between students and space, the 2012 competition will be followed by a conference on outer space law on 24 June 2012. We encourage students to attend this conference too, and are currently considering ways to facilitate this. Information on the conference will be posted to this site in the future.

30 January 2012: Deadline for Submission of Requests for Clarifications.

13 February 2012: Deadline for the Author of the Problem to give Response to Requests for Clarifications.

12 March 2012: Deadline for Submission of Written Memorials for Regional.

April 2012 (TBC): Indian National Funding Round.

18 April 2012: Deadline for Announcement of Participants in the Oral Rounds, Asia- Pacific Regional Round.

22 & 24 June 2012 (TBC): Regional Oral Rounds and one day conference, NALSAR Hyderabad, India

20 July 2012: For regional winning teams, submission of memorials for World Finals.

2 October 2012: World Semi Final in Naples, Italy.

4 October 2012: World Final in Naples, Italy.
