The Institute has two classes of annual award and the Lachs Moot competition.
Every year, at its Annual Awards Dinner held during the IISL Colloquium, the Institute gives several awards and certificates to people who have shown outstanding achievement in the field of space law.

The Prof. Dr I.H.Ph. Diederiks-Verschoor Award is granted annually by the IISL Board of Directors.

The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition began in 1992 and is organised annually by the International Institute of Space Law. The competition has its own dedicated website.
